    Lighting that promotes good health.

BIOS Lighting, a pioneer in lighting technology for life, introduces the BIOS LED Puck and Linear Modules with SkyBlue™ Technology. SkyBlue infuses blue sky spectrum into white LED light to help reset circadian rhythm. Circadian Rhythm is the human body clock that operates critical functions.

BIOS SkyBlue™ LED Technology provides the maximum melanopic spectrum with minimal blue light hazard. BIOS circadian friendly white light enabled by BIOS SkyBlue™ Technology are driven by scientific findings that were first developed at NASA for the International Space Station. Designed to fit into standard fixtures, BIOS LED light technology is revolutionizing the fixtures of leading commercial lighting manufacturers. Fixtures with the “Illuminated by BIOS” icon provide biological health and safety benefits and are suitable for a multitude of commercial applications including office buildings, universities, hospitals, retail and senior living facilities.

Legacy lighting. Shining a light on a health problem.

Electric light is an epidemic with several negative impacts. It disrupts our natural rhythms and has altered our relationship with natural light. It has changed what millions of years of evolution entrained in our bodies.

On average, 90% of our time is spent indoors under electric light. Unfortunately, electric light does a poor job mimicking the sun, making our days dimmer, our nights brighter, and our biology confused. Our bodies were designed to sync up to the one true constant in life, the sun.

Is your body clock set on snooze?

Circadian Rhythm is the human body clock that operates critical functions including the production of testosterone, growth hormone, cortisol, and melatonin. These hormones have a direct influence on a body’s overall functionality in key areas including:

    • Sleep                      • Alertness
    • Cognition              • Metabolism
    • Performance

Light is the strongest time cue for the circadian system.

Light signals the body clock whether it is night or day and therefore if it should be awake, alert, restful or regenerative. Photobiologists discovered a light-sensitive protein in the eye’s retina called Melanopsin that detects intensity or changing levels of light. This photoreceptor projects to a different, non-visual part of the brain where our circadian clock is located.  So when sunlight gets brighter in the morning, melanopsin becomes very active and triggers the brain’s body clock,  or suprachiasmatic nucleus, to shift into an active day pattern.

Legacy LED is hitting the wrong curve.

Current LED Technology exacerbates the problems caused by electric lighting. They have their spectrum in the wrong place for optimal melanopsin sensitivity. Peak melanopsin sensitivity is very close to daylight’s peak. These legacy LEDs, however, have their spectrum in the precarious position for blue light hazard.

    What about Blue-light Hazard?

Blue-light Hazard is defined as the potential for a photochemical induced retinal injury resulting from radiation exposure at wavelengths primarily between 400 nm and 500 nm. While acute photochemical injury is rare, oxidative stress on your eye is common.

BIOS SkyBlue™. A true blue light special.

BIOS with SkyBlue™ Technology infuses blue sky spectrum into LED light to help bring back circadian rhythms. BIOS SkyBlue™ LED Technology provides the maximum melanopic spectrum with minimal blue light hazard. It’s the CORRECT spectrum on the PROPER curve.

BIOS circadian-friendly white light. The right color, curves and rhythms.

BIOS with SkyBlue™ Technology is driven by scientific findings that were first developed at NASA and engineered for astronauts at the International Space Station who depend completely on electric light. BIOS circadian-friendly white lights features:

    • High Efficacy
    • 90+ CRI
    • Significantly higher melanopic flux than standard white light*
    • Factory calibrated color points
    • 50,000 hour lifetime to L70
    • 5 year warranty

Melanopic Lux Equivalent (MLE) ratio and Color Temperature

Color temperature shifts change melanopic content. Melanopic Lux Equivalent (MLE) is a ratio to convert standard lux into melanopic equivalent. Currently, the WELL Building Standard targets 250 Melanopic Lux. The charts below compares MLE ratio of lighting technology, daylight, and BIOS SkyBlue.

BIOS with SkyBlue™ Technology is now being integrated into light fixtures of leading commercial lighting manufacturers. Just look for the “Illuminated by BIOS” icon. If you are interested in illuminating your fixtures with BIOS Circadian White lights, contact us at info@bioslighting.com.
